Cruises & Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Our 22 year old daughter was diagnosed in 2020 with epilepsy. She is blind and has another neurological disorder. She was put on Keppra (low dose) in May of 2020. In 2022, & 2023 we took cruises (many others years before as well). She has only had 1 breakthrough seizure since on keppra and it was on the cruise we had last February 2023. She was wearing the scopolamine patch. After an afternoon in the ship hospital she was fine for the rest of the cruise. The ship doctor said it was the… read more

I am glad your daughter is ok. I would love to see a picture of her and the dog. I want to go on a cruise, but I have always been afraid. Your post has boosted my courage. Thanks again

I been on a cruise before didn't do no change to my seizures. What the neurologist says is sounds logical. I say that because on the cruise your muscle tension is compressing and depressing, every time you hit a wave. The sudden change may send a shock to aggravate a seizure. Having the other meds will congest the sudden rift change and level it out while on the cruise. I've been on both kilonopin and keppra have no worries they work fine. Also, since she is just starting to take the klonopin it is a new help so it will be doing nothing but increase help since the body has had no time to grow a resistance to its positive effect🏄‍♀️🛳️🚢HAVE A GREAT TIME DON'T WASTE TIME AND WORRY!!!

I had a seizure on a cruise in 2015. My seizures are breakthrough. I had a tonic-clonic seizure like I normally do. The sick bay staff were incredible. I have never been given a rhyme or reason for my seizures, who knows what may have caused this one? Good luck
