a year ago, I got told from my mother that I was fired from my job that I loved doing. however my boss didn't have the guts to tell me to my face. I was heartbroken and upset. they got rid of me because they didn't want to have responsibly when I had seizures. they knew what they were getting into when they gave me the job. as my boss was firing me, she was telling me that I was great at my job and wishes that she kept me
in the last year, it has been really hard to not go to work every day.… read more
First off about getting fired The ADA is a federal law that protects anyone with epilepsy from workplace discrimination. It prohibits employers from refusing to hire someone or terminating their job because they have epilepsy.
If a person has taken leave off work due to epilepsy, the ADA states that an employer may ask for relevant medical information to assess the employee’s current ability to carry out their job safely.
I’m so sorry you had to deal with that situation and what you are currently feeling. I am unable to work right now and alot of the time I feel like I’m just waisting my life doing nothing and just being a burden. I do take classes online so that gives me something do to sometimes but usually I try to get into some hobbies that keep me entertained. I have gotten a certification in baking and love to draw and paint which can occupy me for hours
Was fired last January for a seizure & returned to nursing in August part-time--> they have been working with me for years & already know how to handle my seizures 🫣
I have had that happen too, I was working with a sign company and was hired by a friend i thought was my friend, he knew of my condition prior to hiring me, after 3and 3/4 yrs came up to me outside and said I can't have you doing this anymore, meaning my condition and seizures, i got my last paycheck and left, I haven't worked since about a year and 8 months ago, but I know where you are coming from, hang in there and try and stay pos.
Not always, but that happened several times to me Lucy. So some jobs are accommodating, though usually not the ones worth keeping. Unless my seizures come under control, my previous job will be my last. Three times I had seizures on site and three times I was fired because because of them. I had to go up in front of a review board each time. The first two times I got my job back, thanks to the ADA. The last time though I was deemed too much of a safety risk to myself and others. So even if you are allowed to stay on after a seizure(fulling the requirements of the ADA), your employer has documentation, should there be a future episode.
