Happy Holidays
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone have any serious issues with VNS surgery. I already had a previous RNS type of surgery but this time they offered VNS and worried. I actual started working a second full time job to keep a reason to delay. What do you think?

Happy holidays to everyone and your loved ones!

Hello DRE, I have had the VNS for quite a while now. It did not stop my large seizures completely, but the feeling of them did drop to an easier level to live with. I have absence seizures also so I could do anything about them. The seizures that were short and had a light felling of those the VNS made those practically end. The feeling that comes from your neck is stronger so You don’t feel the seizure anymore. Happy Holidays everyone and their loved ones.

One thing that I did forget to tell You is the strength of the feeling the on the nerve in Your neck can be changed by Your own decision. A epilepsy nurse is the person that adjusts that. They just put something over where the stimulator is placed in your body. You just sit next to the Epilepsy nurse in a chair and You decide if You want the strength adjusted/changed. You can adjust it so it turns itself on every so many length of times, it turns itself on after a certain length of time has passed, ex 10:00 then 10:05 or You are in control of it just by sliding the magnet 🧲 when You are having a seizure. Those are my experiences. Read more and ask Your Dr. before making a decision. New ones have been created and used so I don’t know all the details of them. Best of luck to You. Peanuts 🥜

I used to have a VNS but now have an RNS. The RNS has worked better for me.
