How effective is the valproic medication?

I took valporic acid and had to stop because it tripled my ammonia levels which would have led to liver damage just like Rusti. It did control my seizures. Went back on phenobarbital.

It depends on the person taking the medication. Also, what other medications and supplements you are taking. It didn't work for me and my seizures. But everyone is different, and meds will vary from person to person. I did have to stop taking Valporic Acid due to one of the side effects from the drug which was liver damage after 6 months of use. I used Valporic Acid for 16 months. Keppra (The Rage), wasn't helpful after 5 months because it didn't control my seizures and the side effects such as aggression, dizziness, headaches and irritability to name a few. Keep a diary on how you are feeling before and after taking medication so when you talk to your doctor you have your diary to share.
