Yes . I have it myself.. I’ve been on many different AED meds and non of them were able to control me seizure 100% . That’s what Refractory Epilepsy is.

I’ve been through a few different procedures, trying to help control my seizures, better.
1998 , I had the Left Temporal Lobe Brain Surgery done. It did help control my seizures, but it did help reduce my seizure frequency down from severe , to mild and moderate seizures.

2005 I had the VNS treatment ( Vagus Nerve Stimulation ) implanted. Hoping it would reduce my seizure amount down. This treatment didn’t work well for me. Other people have had good experiences with this treatment.

2023 of last year , I had the DBS (Deep Brain Stimulator ) done . It has had good success with me. . I still have seizures, but between this and my meds, they have reduced in the number amount of seizures .

You can ask your neurologist about other treatment options that are available for those with refractory epilepsy.

My neurologist basically told me that the my body is fighting the medication. He did tell me a couple different treatment options though. Just the seizure medication ain't working
