What Is Your Personal Perspective On Yourself?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Do you view that you had a good life prior to Epilepsy starting later in life? And do you feel that you are cursed, challenged or simply frustrated by life with all of the seizures and/or all of the side effects of medications, surgeries, implants, etc.? Do you feel that others have ceased judging you as an individual but rather only see you as an Epileptic -- thus in some way abnormal? And for those of you who have had Epilepsy since you were a child and have never had any form of reduction… read more

You know my opinion from my first love. (God) before I had health issues. I was raised in Church of Christ since 5 or 6 now. Life is all about love. How too, know too, show too, heal too, pain too, support too and so on. That’s why we are here. As a human as the a image of my First Love. Some is born handicap, without limbs, like a vegetable, and so on. We have to endure and take the life that is given to us from Our Heavenly Father. Live each day is your last. If your miserable and unhappy in the body that you’re in now set a goal to go to heaven, because Heaven does not have any defects or pain. Jesus is what’s important, by learning n listening, than what was put in place by God and His Only Perfect Living Sacrifice Jesus The Christ Amen ….. I pray this helps…. In Gods Love and Jesus Christ Amen

There are various things that can limit your lifestyle. But I have found that reading books about how to cope with stress, anxiety, depression and other issues related to epilepsy is helpful. Also I must say that turning to Christ and praying is good for the soul

I'm 60, but try to not act like it. I've was diagnosed in 1968 (5yo), so for the last 55 yrs I've had many challenges. I've come to know that bc I have no control when/where or how seizures will present, I must trust in the Lord as He controls all things.
*********What is my perspective of myself?
I would say I'm blessed. I'm a child of God, epilepsy or not, my Lord has watched over my days.
1) Do "I" consider myself any less of a man bc of my epilepsy? No!
I don't use pronouns, or whatever this world is into these days, so I guess I could say I'm more of a man than some.
2) Do I ever feel so frustrated bc those around me can't understand what I'm going through, & never will, or maybe terminated bc of it, yet when you tell your family they say it's your fault as why would a company do it. (only an issue the last 10 yrs).
**I still don't consider myself any less of a man, but I do consider those people as pathetic, & petty little people. I think my brother took offense as I recently told him that & he hasn't spoken to me for a couple weeks. normally I have great restraint.
3) Have there been times when I feel less than myself, I feel I've no place left to go, get depressed & want to give up? I can say yes!!
This happened several times over the last 55 yrs!
This is 100% w/o a doubt, when my faith wavers, I get mixed up in some really weird shit bc I try to grasp what I don't control of, even though I know God has total control. In the end I'm so far in a hole I let Christ take control, & things get back on path
People of the Bible have experience the struggles & doubts we do today.
We either forget what history taught us, or as today many haven't been taught history. The Bible was an integral part of history that we learned,
----------one of many of David's struggles
How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O LORD my God” - Psalm 13:1-3

I was reading a devotional I've get, today's was by a woman who's daughter was diagnosed w/ epilepsy. She said she finally realized couldn't control life & went to God.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

I actually see myself as lucky that I was diagnosed at the age of 25 - this way I got to experience both sides of life. And I am still me, I have not changed as a person, so I will not let epilepsy hold me back or drag me down, and will never let anyone view me as just an epileptic. Sure I have my days that it does play on my mind, all of it - the epilepsy, the medication and their side-effects, the surgery that didn't work very well, the list goes on - but I always try to remain positive, because things could be worse. I like to say that we are given things like this in life, as we are the ones that are able to handle them.
