I agree, I am forced on SSI because the Dr's and gov don't allow me to work. My monthly epileptic med is about $3000 a month because it works and is needed. I even try volunteering, but am cut off after a seizure. You need to study which companies allow epileptic to work. I was told by a place I volunteered at that they wanted to keep me but it was their insurance Co that refused. I even wanted to sign a form that any injuries I received after a seizure was my fault and I wouldn't sue, but no dice. It's insurance companies that are in charge these days. Big lesson learned..
I agree with @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, try taking classes and use the information she has given. Next, begin to learn a skill that you can use toward working from home on your computer. There are jobs available to work from home depending on your skill level. If you are receiving SSI, understand that there will be a change in your SSI that you receive now if you start working. You can get more information at ssa.gov.
What I would do first is try taking an continuing/ adult-ed course at a local high school (something basic like English or American History).. You could probably be able to enroll free of charge being on the SSI. While you’re taking, and after that class, you can look into courses at a local, state, or online university, to see what interests you. If you physically live near and attend classes in person, you can ask questions of your instructor before or after class, and every university has an academic advising office where you can get advice on course direction, organizational assistance, and ADA (Amer. With Disabilities Act)—compliant support. The thing about online courses I don’t know. is whether one can get that extra advice and direction, or whether you can drop out mid-semester and not have a failure grade applied to your record. That’s the best advice I can offer about furthering your education! I admire your ambition, though!
I am getting off a medication that cost cost over $ 1000.00 per month called Aptiom
