Feel Like Spinning
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

What do you do when you wake up feeling perfectly fine, take your meds and everything and then all the sudden you feel like everything is spinning and you can’t focus on one thing cause everything is spinning

You are probably experiencing Verdigo . It is possible that one of your meds are causing the side effect of Vertigo. I’ve been on a medication that also made me feel that way in the past.

Sit down when you feel that. Take a few calming breaths and focus on the thought: I am in control here!

See if that works for you. And when you are no longer spinning, then you might want to get a message to your neurologist to explain what happened.

Sometimes, as I found out with the sudden dizziness triggered falls (while walking across a room) that I had earlier this year, you will find out after an adjustment made by your neurologist (as I did) that the spinning has nothing to do with epilepsy but rather anxiety. And once I knew that the trigger was extreme negative emotions, I was in control and the unexpected random dizziness was no longer random and was also easy to get rid of with just a pause and take a breath for a short time. And within a few days, they were not happening any more because my brain knew that I knew what the trigger was.

In my case, I found after I stopped and closed my eyes and took a slow calming breath before reacting in any way, that it was a strong negative emotion that was the trigger. And I was lucky at the time that I was hooked up to an ambulatory EEG that confirmed that it had no EEG activity and more importantly (in terms of why I was hooked up to the ambulatory EEG) that it confirmed that I had no nocturnal seizures during the 48 hour time period thus confirming that I was completely seizure free. This confirmed that I was in a long-term seizure free state for over a year. In 21 days, I will be up to 1 and a half years of being seizure free.

NOTE: However, I am an unusual epileptic because I sustained 17 years of brain damage because it took that long between when my epilepsy came out of hibernation (August 1980) and when I saw a neurologist and was identified as being an epileptic (after results were examined from my first ambulatory EEG in October 1997), and I was started on Tegretol. I got even more severe brain damage (June 2003 - January 2005), but I should have died many times over during that time frame if not for miracles performed by God.

Okay, because my meds do that to me a lot, i get dizzy and even tip over sometimes because i cant walk straight, but i also throw up a lot, headaches. I usually just sleep the day away with my trusty bucket 🤣 its normally when my meds change or i have a problem with them but lately its been happening randomly, im overdue for an appointment though, sorry i couldnt help. It could be similar to what happens to me just not as strong 🤷🏼‍♀️ i just asked a question about this and got several answers if you wanna check it out.
