Has Anyone Experienced This Strange And Annoying Sensation?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone, I have a question about something annoying that is happening to me, I am not sure if it is epilepsy related and that's why I am asking if anyone dealt with the same thing. First of all my problem is hard to explain but I'll do my best to describe it. Basically I have a strange feeling in my body, and when I mean my body I mean my muscles, especially in the shoulders and the thighs. I feel like some sort of pressure, irritability and overall unpleasant feeling in these areas… read more

Alex, If your sure it's the meds have the MD's tried any alternatives as I know there are a few or are you pretty much stuck with the duloxetine for now?

That's exactly what I was going to say, restless leg syndrome... horrible feeling I have heard, my daughter has it. It is neurological, could be the side effects of your meds or if you have PTSD. I hope you get it resolved soon! 🥰

Could be restless leg syndrome as well…

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Well I decided to stop taking the antidepressant because the sensations were way too annoying and it wasn't really helping with my mood. It just seemed to make my mood swings and depressive episodes even worse. Good news is that the restless arm syndrome effects are starting to fade away. Bad news is that I get withdrawal effects from the antidepressant which seems to overlap with my seizure activity and I get a lot of electric shocks in my brain that end up in my body as well. You know that sensation when you hit your elbow nerves and you get a shock in your arm? I get a similar feeling but it goes into an entire half of the body. I read that it's not uncommon for people to feel these sensation when withdrawing antidepressants despite having epilepsy or not, but unfortunately this will take around 2 weeks to correct itself so I only got to be patient.
On the other hand I realized I was wrong when I believed I was bipolar, upon further investigation it turns out that what I might have is actually called borderline personality disorder which is VERY similar to bipolar with the only difference that you do not get maniacal episodes, and I actually never got a maniacal episode, what I saw described as a maniacal episode is total loss of awareness and total recklessness that can last for days or weeks. I did make some crazy decisions in my life but they were not due to impulsivity but due to intense self realizations and many months of reflection about the matter. As I already said I started to write music although I had no idea how to do it which might seem crazy for most people but I considered this for many years and I didn't give up on it even when things got hard, I trained to be better and to keep on fighting and learning so this doesn't to seem like a maniacal episode, just proves that I might be a very ambitious person that is willing to take on impossible tasks if I truly believe in my goals. Same thing goes for calisthenics, when I started it I could hardly do a push up but now I am close to achieve a strength that may seem superhuman and it's thanks to my determination not to some crazy momentarily decisions.
As for further medication, I see that borderline personality disorder is not really treatable by medication, indeed some medication might help ease some of the symptoms but in the end you got to learn how to control these mood swings and not let them control you.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member yeah I'm 100% sure it's the meds but it also runs down in my family as my mother just told me she has experienced these symptoms for a long time but she didn't know what it was either. Anyway the antidepressants just make this worse in my case and from a rare event it became a habit of having this issue. If I can't take it anymore then I just stop taking the antidepressants, anyway it was just an experiment that proved me that I am bipolar, they just somehow ease my anxiety levels but they can't improve my mood swings and irritability.
