It generally refers to seizures that go unnoticed and can only be picked up on EEG. I get them all the time.
Absent seizures would have a staring spell. Silent seizures don't have anything apart from the Sub clinical brain wave data.
I forgot to mention that many refer to absence seizures as silent seizures because they can be very subtle…usually staring spells that can be mistaken as daydreaming (something I experienced a lot throughout my years in school).
What I refer to as “silent” seizures and what you may see “silent” seizures described as when you Google the term are different. They are similar but not the same.
I apologize if my explanation is confusing. I do not mean for it to be. If you have any questions or want me to give more specific explanation, just let me know.
I refer to subclinical seizures as “Silent” Seizures because there are no physical signs of them. The only way i found out about them was from the data collected during an EEG test I had.
I had a NeuroPace device (RNS…Responsive NeuroStimulator) implanted in 2018. Even though I already knew I had “spike” activity on a daily basis, I did not know about the “silent” seizures. Thankfully, I do not have them daily but it is often enough to upset me and add to my anxiety.
Finding out about the “silent” seizures was a gift because it explained why I would feel extremely tired sometimes…not as bad as if I’d had a tonic-clonic seizure but I still feel worn out, headache, confused, etc.
Wishing the best to you and yours.
