How long does it take you to really feel like you are back to your baseline after a GTC seizure? I was just diagnosed with epilepsy 6 months ago and have had several focal aware seizures, a few focal impaired awareness seizures and now 3 generalized tonic clonic seizures. It seems to be getting harder and taking longer to feel back to my baseline after a GTC. The fatigue and cognitive impairments are the worst.
Mary793, I think we are all different. I think we all have different triggers, symptoms,. So I also believe we all recover at our own rate. A week truly is not that long for having a GTC. Take time to rest . That is what your brain & body need. Try not to worry. Most likely your memories will return. Take care.
Time is the hardest thing to judge. As you recover from a seizure, it usually comes back in phases. After about one or two minutes of shaking/jerking, you setttle down and then you can see/hear again. The part of your brain that controls talking usually takes longer to recover so what I call the most frustrating time is when you see and understand the people around you but you can't respond to them. I would say it took me 20-30 minutes to fully recover because I took too many rides in an ambulance when I couldn't say, "I'll be fine if you let me recover.".
Thank you so much Shelia2, that is really helpful to hear someone say that.
Agree it is so frustrating when you are aware and can’t respond to those around you. I’m also interested if anyone feels they aren’t getting back to their “normal” after a few days. I just feel so off after having a GTC - my memory and word finding are still not great over a week later.
