Can This Be Considered Some Form Of Seizure?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone, I have a question to you all. I am having these strange symptoms that I cannot explain, although I researched a lot and talked to neurologists no one can provide me with any answers regarding this issue so maybe you could help me with this. The thing is, I got some weird episodes. I know for a fact that I got tonic and myclonic seizures but there is something that is bothering me even more. Nowadays I got this weird thing, basically at times (especially near the evening or after… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I never though blue light to be a triggering factor but it could make sense and the affected area might be indeed in an area of the brain where movement is coordinated but I still got to investigate it further, I will make an appointment with a new neurologist and see what she will say as I already tried Keppra and didn't work, it made these things go worse, basically in time I learned how to use another part of my brain to cancel a seizure the way a RNS works but AED medication makes it even harder for me to control my seizures. I really don't know what to do, I was opting for a surgery because I knew if my epilepsy wouldn't go away even after 7 years of no seizures then nothing would be able to stop it as antiepileptics only stop the seizures from occurring, they don't cure epilepsy. I just hope I fill find a way to fix this.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member funny you should mention the occipital lobe because I got an arachnoid cyst there and when I experience these episodes I get a flash of light going through my line of sight, an epileptologist and a neurosurgeon suggested that the cyst might be the cause of my problems and your description being very similar to mine and your regard towards the occipital lobe kinda makes me think that might be the problem, the thing is ... I tried Levetiracetam (Keppra) to see if it makes me feel better and it actually made these episodes worse so I stopped taking it and still looking for a solution to this. I see you said that meds don't help you in this instance so I guess they won't help me either as I suspected but I still got to try sodium valproate (Depakon) and lamotrigine (Lamictal), if these 2 don't work either then it's a serious problem. My fear is that one of these episodes is gonna make me fall to the ground and I will enter in a tonic seizure, haven't had one in over 7 years but I feel the same aura when these episodes happen so it can still trigger one at any time.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member what you describe definitely sounds familiar and so far I have managed to always hold my balance but these things usually make it hard for me to run and sometimes to work-out especially when doing lunges, I feel my right leg collapsing and my pelvis tilting forward with no control (and in the past I could do lunges with a 40kg barbell with no issues). I can still do pistol squats with no issues though which is weird but that means something is going on when both hemispheres are communicating so the corpus callosum might bridge an error from one hemisphere to the other and pretty sure the issue is in my left side where my cyst is.

It sounds similar to what I get. If I sit or lay down I can get jolts anywhere from my neck down. I've had them in my arms, neck and waist when walking as well. When I was working and probably overdoing it I was also having a lot of sudden what were basically half collapses so I would be standing my legs would give out and my top half would always go down and I would always be very close to falling over but thankfully I never did.

I have this issue as well. I shake my head and move my arm, i always go to the right. Sometimes almost falling. I also yell randomly lol my doctor said they were tics. But they do feel like a weak aura, i get that rush through my body. Happens all day, kind of got used to it. I am photosensitive i think that triggers it sometimes. This didnt start until i developed occipital lobe epilepsy, i already had temporal lobe. No medication has helped it so honestly i adapted to it and try to relax if it gets bad

There could be a couple of things involved. I believe you’re having a form of a seizures.
1. It’s possibly that one of your seizures were triggered by blues screen from your computer. Maybe a form of Photosensitivity.

2. It also sounds like you maybe experiencing a portion of the brain that controls your arms and legs movements. Sound like a seizure was hitting that part of your brain an making you turn one direction
