I used to get back at them with the same dose. Until one day a co-worker was giving me the business and i was focused on my work and didn't notice him. He got so upset he couldn't think of what he was saying. I found out that not listening to the abuse makes them very angry and they forget why are they here.

Harass them back,some people need a taste of there own medicine.
Srry for the bitter comment but being nice in the workplace doesn't cut it anymore well in my experience .
