Those with epilepsy that had children what was your experience like? Did you have to be off your meds? Was it scary? I know I still have lots of time to worry and decide if I even want a family and Ik I can have the conversation with my doctor when the time comes but share your stories

I was switched to Zonisimide for my pregnancy and my baby was a healthy baby boy. He was 6 weeks early preemie but that could've been simply because he was excited to greet the world and surprise mommy or he was my first birth or any number or reasons. They said Zonisimide would be safe. They also has me on pain medicine so that could've been why too. But he was developed and healthy and just needed 21 days in the NICU because he was a lazy eater at first before we could come home but is one of the tallest kids in his class, is super smart, so happy and active, outgoing and full of love and life! You would NEVER know he was a preemie by looking at him now! No meds are best fr pregnancy but being epileptic that may not be possible....so just get with your doctor (Neurologist and OB/GYN) and let them discuss with you the least damage causing medications possible. I did this for severe debiltating pain, bipolar, and epilepsy.

I've had epilepsy since 5yo, I have many, many friends who have epilepsy & have gone on to parents & grandparents. Several had concerns at first, but they didn't have any problems & they tell me it's worth everything to see them grow.
I have not been blessed w/ a family of my own, so I'm envious of those that do.

I've had 1 full-term & 1 miscarriage PRIOR to my epilepsy diagnosis and 2 full-term pregnancies AFTER my diagnosis of epilepsy. I had some adjustments with dosage of my seizure medications, even a few seizures, but basically normal & uneventful pregnancies. Labor & deliver, too. Children are healthy, no epilepsy.

I have had my condition since 7, and have had friends and family and such etc, I have a family and am a step dad, i took on, as for the question here, I didn't do anything to change what I was diagnosed with in any way, just because I have kids or anyone else who been with me, I don't think that is necessary to do, I am ok with how it's been and it is more stable than before so I don't worry about it as much, a little if any, but not a prob with, my opinion
