@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Continued from above: In mid 2019 I began having these verbal tics where I say or holler words, names, phrases or humming or moaning noises uncontrollably & I don’t know what made those start. My verbal tics continue daily & are more active when I’m around others. My current Neurologist took me off the Oxcarbazepine cause she said long term use can possibly harm the liver & she put me on Vimpat. It was around June 2019 a Neurology Nurse Practioner started me on Keppra & I only took it for like 2 months because it made me so tired that I had to take a nap every day & I eventually started having trouble sleeping at night. It was around then these verbal tics started & so I wonder if the Keppra had something to do with it or if maybe the Prozac that I was temporarily on did. Well, that’s my experience. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I took both medications together for probably more than 10 years. I’m 44 & my Pediatric Neurologist started me on them but I don’t remember exactly when that was but I was in my early 30’s when he had me start seeing an adult Neurologist. As for side effects, one morning as I was getting ready to leave for work I began crying for no reason at all & I either got dizzy or blurry vision, I I don’t remember. At the time since I didn’t have any insurance my Family doctor was prescribing my seizure meds & so I called him about the issues & the nurse said that my doctor said it might have been the Oxcarbazepine & so he adjusted my dosage & I’ve not had anymore crying episodes like that, where I suddenly cry for no reason & I was alert. As for the Divalproex, I found out in 2017 from an adult Neurologist that long term use of it can possibly cause Osteoporosis & he did a bone density test & found that I have Osteopenia in my left hip & recommended I take Vitamin D & my current Neurologist has me taking the Vitamin D also. In December 2018 I began shaking in both arms off & on & as the months progressed the shaking of both arms just got worse & eventually my right leg would shake sometimes & as I would be leaving for work at a fast food burger place or as I got to work, my vision sometimes got blurry & I had trouble reading the menu order screen & sometimes my leg muscles would tighten up to where I could hardly walk. One day at work I had a panic attack at work. Another time I got light headed at work & so my Mom came & got me from work to take me to our after hours Family clinic & on the way there my head litterly started going in circles & that hurt so bad that I had to hold it still. I lucked out & got to see our former Family doctor who just works after hours now & so he’s familiar with my seizure issues & he saw I hadn’t had blood work done in about a year but part of that time I didn’t have any insurance. So he had me do blood work & it showed that my Divalproex level was at 135 & normal is between 50 to 100 & so he adjusted my dosage & after several months the shaking finally stopped. He gave me a note to excuse me from work for a while & we had a new manager at that burger place & she said she had to let me go cause she needed to fill that spot & she didn’t know when I was coming back, well I didn’t know when that shaking was going to stop. I haven’t worked since & with the help of an attorney, my disability was finally approved in late 2022 after 2 & 1/2 years. Continued Below: Your friend in Texas, Becky
