If u can have children when u have seizures can ur children get it from u
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I'm the same I've had it since I was 4 and never really had a official cause I did have 4 health records destroyed in a big flood we had in 2011 so they may have had one but that's in the past. but these are my two.
1. I got it via genetics apparently there was a great (or great, great) relative either an aunty or grandmother or aunty on my dad's side that had it. But I would have to triple-check this before I confirm anything
2. the other one is that it was caused by nuctel cord at birth leading to low O2 and brain damage. It is known that this did happen.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, that is also another possibility, if there is a relative on the husband or wife’s side of the family with Epilepsy.
Mom or dad may not of had epilepsy until later in life. Whether it be from a severe head injury, maybe they were very sick and with a high fever. Then after breaking the fever they may of got epilepsy that way. There are still other ways of being diagnosed with epilepsy.
Those are just the chance by percentages of a mom and dads baby, getting diagnosed from Epilepsy due to their epilepsy.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member As far as genetics go there's more chance of getting it from an older relative, if there is any who happens to have epilepsy rather than getting it directly from the parents. I'm not sure what the difference is though between someone just developing it v genetics.
If the baby genetics comes from mom’s Epilepsy during pregnancy, the baby old get Epilepsy between 3% - 9 %chance of getting Epilepsy. The Father with Epilepsy, the baby has a 1.5% - 3 % chance of getting genetic Epilepsy.
So if you love and you both are capable and have the strength and guidance. Love on. Is my advice. But I through caution to the wind all the time. Let the Lord be my guide.
