Memory Issues Being Taken Advantage Of By Others?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Do you think your memory issues are ever being taken advantage of? Has anybody else here found that they have ever been manipulated because of memory problems? I'd suspected it. But finally I wrote some things down that proved it.

Some people don’t understand. I do get angry when someone says DON’T YOU REMEMBER? But I’ve learned a lot due to this site. You don’t have to have this disease to not remember things. I consider you all my team and even special friends. Thank you 😊

I feel for you. Unless you're going through the same thing as me, you won't understand which is what I have experienced with friends and family. They have no idea how difficult it is to function in society with epilepsy, anxiety depression. They also don't understand how it impacts 8th view of employers.

I cannot get out of bed. I need to take a shower. Get my dog medication. My husband is very orderly! Just upgraded meds. Ugh

I come from a family of passive aggressive conflict. Where small things can be nasty insults. Never any open arguments. Not healthy ... so in all my relationships since I have seeked open honesty instead. So when I caught my mom doing this (a lot) for her it's the equivalent of what a physical attack would be like in many families. And last time we talked, I'd just had a seizure cluster and was scared and confused and just wanted compassion from my mom. And she was sociopathic in her lack of caring. I'm a parent too --- and that's not how it's done. And I've put up with it for decades.

Well, she is 80 and lives just 20 min away. And is ghosted as of a few months ago. Blocked her everywhere.

And, constantly not worried a phone call or email is going to be from her? It is SO much more relaxing and less triggering!

Yeah I had a landlord try to play on my memory issues. But thanks to a friend and a journal. I stood my ground and backed him in a corner. Also letting him know it was twisted to do what he was trying.
