Depression
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am depressed and I weather it's the seizures or the pills I need help getting over it. I can't get out of the house other than Mondays and Tuesdays. How to I get over this?

I had and still do have very bad depression and have had it for 15 years and tried therapy which didn't work for me but I would work to find a therapist for you so you can both work to find out what is causing your depression and work on that and find a solution weather it be from your sezuires or the medication or something else. I worked with mine for awhile and found out my depression comes from being put on disability and not being able to work or drive anymore for the rest of my life and personal reasons and forming relationships and the issues I had with my divorce because of my wife cheating on me because of my epilepsy and the sezuire disorder and the things that i had problems with and couldn't sometimes perform
doing. along with not being able to make new friendships or connections with anyone because of my epilepsy and sezuire disorder. Even though I said therapy and my therapist visits didn't work for me those were the answers that I gotto take away with me from the short time I had during that time.

How often do you have your seizures? Is it only Mondays and Tuesdays?

Some seizure meds can cause depression, and mood swings. Colbazam was really bad for me, one minute i was laughing the next i was so angry that i had to get away from my children so that i wouldn’t hurt them. Luckily they had school that day. I went to my doctor as soon as they left for school to be taken off it. That was so very scary. Thank God I wasn’t on it for long so i only had to stay away from them for a day or two. My husband was home to take care of our children so that i could stay away from my babies until i was off it.
