Keppra And Pregnancy

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Denver, CO

My wife is on higher than recommended daily dose of Keppra, 1875mg in the a.m. and 1500mg in the evening. She is 33 and we discussed more children but I worry about her age along with medication causing birth defects and having to care for a disabled child on my own if anything happens to my wife.

You both need to sit down with your neurologist and look at her tests and discuss all options for her care and the child's Developpement.
Also ask if he could recommend a 2nd opinion on this matter.
AS far as her age.
I am no doctor but having Epilepsy I would think it should not be a problem. You should certainly discuss the medication effects.
My wife was 34 when we had are second child and she suffered from hyperemesis and lost 50lbs during the pregnancy. Both mother and child were both fine.
Have a blessed day and holiday season.
