A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 3 1/2 year old so was recently diagnosed with idiopathic generalised epilepsy and likely to start Keppra soon. Does anyone have any good resources about talking about epilepsy and taking medication for this age group. Many thanks

I would start looking into short stories for kids and comics .

Story Books …….
Lee the Rabbit with Epilepsy
Dottie the Dalmatian has Epilepsy
Living with Seizures
Because You are My Best Friend
Mom, I have a Starring Problem

There are a few different comics on Epilepsy. Start with MediKidz comics, then check for other ones.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , At www.epilepsy.com you’ll find a lot of helpful information. Just click on the box, probably in the top right corner once you’re on the site & you’ll see a variety of topics you can look at. There’s info about children, etc. I don’t know if you can call the United States but the website offers an Epilepsy Support hotline phone number where you can call & talk to someone 24 hours a day/7 days a week & the website said that you could also message them & so maybe they have an e-mail. If you go to www.Google.com & type in “Melbourne, Victoria Australia Epilepsy Foundation” & you’ll see some Epilepsy websites that come up & you can check those out. If you’re on Facebook there’s a page called “Epilepsy Education and Support” & it often posts helpful information, not always directed for a certain age but the information is helpful. Here in the United States we have an Epilepsy Foundation is why I mentioned to put that in the search box. Where you live the offices have different names. Also, I don’t how much you know about Keppra & I don’t know how it effects children but just know it might has some odd side effects that you might want to look out for like mood swings, anger issues, making someone not act like themselves. They say that’s known as the Keppra Rage. It can make you really tired or even make it where you have trouble sleeping. You’ll find mixed reviews of Keppra on here. Some have taken it & didn’t like the side effects & got off it but others found that it was the only thing that worked & put up with the side effects & some don’t have any problems with it. I took it in June 2019 for about a month & it made me so tired that I had to take a nap every day & then I started having trouble sleeping at night & so I got off it. Hope this helps some. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Your friend in Texas, Becky
