I was on Depakote earlier this year but after I was intubated and had several tests including blood work . They realized my liver enzymes were high it took 3 days of IV meds to get them back down and I now get them checked regularly

I took Depakote back in the’90s and gained about 25 lbs along with it. I was like a “zombie “ while on it.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I’ve been on Depakote for over 13 years & haven’t had hardly any problems with it. But it was in December 2018 that I began having some shaking in my arms & the first day it started, that night I got chest pain & had trouble breathing & hospital thought I was just dehydrated. As months progressed I had awful shaking in both arms off & on & my right leg would shake off & on & I got blurry vision off & on & a few times my leg muscles would stiffen up which made it hard to walk. I had a panic attack at the fast food burger place I was working at. One day I got light headed at work & so my Mom came & got me & took me to our after hours family clinic & on the way there my head was literally turning in circles & so I had to hold it still cause it hurt when it did that. I got lucky & saw my former family doctor who only works after hours now & he knows about my seizures & he saw that it had been about a year since I had gotten blood work done but I didn’t have any insurance. So he did blood work & found that my Depakote level was at 135 & normal is between 50 to 100. He couldn’t say for sure that’s what was causing my shaking but he adjusted my dosage & later on in the year the shaking stopped. I saw him at the end of May 2019 & he gave me a note for work but we had a new manager & she said she had to let me go cause she didn’t know when I was coming back, well I didn’t know when that shaking was going to stop. Then around June 2019 my verbal tics started where I say or holler words, names, phrases or humming or moaning noises uncontrollably & I don’t know what made those start but when around others my verbal tics are more active. I’m currently on 750mg of Depakote & Vimpat 100mg in the morning & at night I take 1 500mg of Depakote & 1 Vimpat 100mg. I have issues with my Vimpat blood level also cause with the dosage I take it shows it’s a little below normal & one time after a seizure my Neurologist increased my Vimpat by 1 100mg but that made my fingers shake a little & so I went back to my regular dosage. It was just odd that I had taken the same dosage of Depakote for so long without any problems & then had that awful shaking & such a high blood work level. Take care. Your friend in Texas, Becky
