Suicidal Only Right After A Seizure
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Normally i dont deal with severe depression or clinical depression. I have my times here and there, but its usually after major events, and it usually goes away fairly soon. But i have been told by other people that theres been a couple of times where right after a fairly big seizure i become suicidal. Not after every seizure, just couple here and there. Those suicidal thoughts/tendancies go away like after a day maybe two or three days at maximum ( depending on severity of seizure) than im… read more

yes ive been through it many time, part is psychological yet another, part is pathological. forcing yourself to get on with things staying busy rather than slump into thought can help

Please don’t do suicide John . You are here on earth for a reason. All you have to do is find your purpose then follow that purpose. I once almost killed myself when I was in my twenties but I’m glad i didn’t or I wouldn’t be able to see the world and the blessings that I now have. ( before psych classes)

I am not thinking about suicide. I made a promise to my mom and God that I would never consider it. I am ok with the depression now. Thanks for your message@

Very early on after I was diagnosed with epilepsy, I had suicide urges, but they were more from the wrong antidepressant for me. Years ago (around 2006) I made a promise to God and my mom that I would never consider suicide.

However, I have some friends on here who have the worst versions of epilepsies and their seizures, and have talked with me about having had many situations where suicide seems like the best choice.

Lennox-Gastaut syndrome is one of those, I have not seen one of these in person, but I did see one on a video shared by a hospital

Lennox-Gastaut syndrome is one of those. Here is a link to an article from NIH describing this syndrome is like: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29126048/#:~:te....
And only this year did the approve an anticonvulsant specifically for it. Hopefully something good will come from this beside a billionaire pharmaceutical owner getting richer.

I remember my illness started in 2018 I did not want to live like this. Very sad 😢 but not suicidal though. This site has helped in so many ways.
