Does Anyone Feel Like An Imposter?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi
- I feel like I should be working and doing things that I did prior to my epilepsy
- I regularly feel like I shouldn't be on disability and that I can do everything.
- My family and my Dr have been telling me that I can't work or do most things on my own especially with my myoclonic seizures as they have caused me to burn and cut myself when cooking, dropping things etc...
- I used to be a nurse and don't see myself as being disabled. Even on here I see and think that there are people… read more

Fatigue is my #1 complaint. Immediately after a seizure I have to sleep. It takes me a couple, sometimes several, days to recuperate. What helps? Sleep! I learned not to fight the fatigue and just gave my body permission to heal itself with sleep. It's so much less stressful now.
I hope you find ways that help you. All the best to you

It’s been a long journey (one that I am still on), but I am finally getting to a point of realizing that “I have seizures”. To help me embrace this reality, I say daily (hubby and I because he has a major illness as well): “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”. This (along with your stories and encouragement) has helped me to look for and implement strategies to navigate the long and winding road seizures presents me with. You just be encouraged, keep a positive attitude, and press on!

Hi HannaZ, I’m so glad for your question. Sometimes I feel that my family feels that I can do more and therefore I get left to fend for myself, for the most part. I’ve always been the one to do everything until my seizures got the better of me. I also appreciate all the answers before mine. Many good point to glean from!!

You should be communicating with yourself in different way. You can't be worried about how anyone sees you! You have to enjoy who you see :) we didn't choose this, it chose us. 😉

Your not alone with how your feeling , and I'm glad you have been open and honest about it which isn't easy .
I think setting small goals each day can help you look forward in doing things or introducing a new hobby into your routine and having a project to do and complete which will help in feeling like your doing something constructive with your time.
I've taken up the hobby loom knitting and have set different projects to work on and complete the feeling you get when you have completed a project is very rewarding I'm hoping to do a course soon instead of getting a medical exemption as I feel I can study since my glasses have helped me to be able to handle the cognitive side of things as before just reading anything I couldn't handle and I hope to find a work from home role .
I don't think your lazy the fatigue we feel isn't a normal kind and I remember a naturopath saying to me resting is the bodies way to heal so think of you resting as healing your body which isn't a bad thing.
