If You Switched To Generic Vimpat, How's It Going?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Did anyone switch from brand name Vimpat to generic Vimpat recently now that it's available? If so, how are you feeling?

I started generic Vimpat/lacosamide a few weeks ago after 3 years on the brand name. Still trying to figure out how it's going for me. Sometimes I feel like I'm angrier than usual and felt some deja vu sensations today. Used to have those with brand Vimpat every few months though so not anything new.

I started Vimpat in January 2017, the generic was introduced March 2022. I felt like it wasn't working the same, and had a breakthrough seizure in July. The EMT said that seizure lasted nearly 10 minutes and I had to have an MRI of my brain because of it. The doctors insist there's no difference. I don't agree.

I switched a few months ago. At first there were no changes but recently I’ve noticed more mood changes (anger and anxiety), ringing in my one ear and my eyes feel tired all of the time. How are you doing now that more time has passed??

Hi, I was switched to the generic Vimpat a few months ago because my medical made me. Since switching I've had even bigger mood swings and have now lost control of my seizures.

I started using the generic Vimpat simply because of the cost was better on our budget. So far the only symptom that has been higher is the side effect of anxiety. I take Ashwaganda to help with that-it is a supplement approved by my neurologist. I was taking 1 a day but increased that to when I take the generic and that has helped reduce the anxiety.

They switched my husband to it from his name brand Vimpat. The first month wasn’t bad. But here we are with the second month, & he’s had a moment where he had a small absent seizure. Of course he don’t remember & just don’t even know it happened in general. Until the nausea & massive headache kicked in like it normally does after a seizure. Which sucks. Because he’s went two years seizure free with his meds. Until they switched the Vimpat to the generic. Now it’s not working as well for him. I’m gonna have to talk to the doctor to send a paper in for the insurance, so he can continue to get the name brand. Since we know that actually works.
