Anyone Know The Difference Between Focal Cortical Dysplasia TypeIII & Focal Cortical Dysfunction?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve been diagnosed w/ ‘focal cortical dysplasia’ of my left temporal+parietal lobes & ‘focal cortical dysfunction’ of my right+temporal parietal lobes. This = intractable complex partial focal aware & unaware seizures alternating between hemispheres or/& activating both sides simultaneously
I’ve tried researching the difference between cortical dysplasia & cortical dysfunction myself, but I find the terms often used interchangeably

I also have trouble with higher executive functioning. We have a lot of similar issues. Find a good MD. I am thankful for my primary care MD! He knows more about Epilepsy than most neurologist. 👣🐾🐾💤

I like Nijel's piano comparison, nicely stated. As far as the doctors - continue to ask questions until you understand, the doctors - nurses - medical students, don't worry about their schedules - we are paying them for our visits. You are the patient. It took the medical world - 10 years (after a grandmal/tonic clonic) to identify my auras and seizure activity that remained - and it was a nursing student walking down a hallway who passed me and stopped.

During your next visit - I would see if there is a doctor who speaks Czech & Russian that you could see or if there is person working who speaks Czech & Russian who can translate during the visit. Communication is so important.

Completely agree SusieQ! Glad you have one, it helps SO much!
I’m currently looking for a new primary care dr., preferably in Cleveland area?!
I was assigned one before I left my last hospitalization; the dr was chosen for me and the appointment was scheduled by hospital staff drs before I was released from hospital.
But when I arrived for this first meet-n-greet w/ new primary care dr, she denied 🙅‍♀️ me before I even got past reception! She texted front desk that based on my chart records, my health situation, and my diagnosis’s (thanks MyChart) my situation was just too complicated for her practice.
What?! Why choose her in the first place and bother to schedule an appt if we “weren’t a match?” So, now I need a new one ASAP! Currently I have ‘a team’ of 3 different specialists (w/ access to my chart), but no one to coordinate them, run interference or handle my normal med needs, like a broken toe (from Friday nites’s seizures) for instance.
If anyone knows one…🙂…😂
