Does Anyone Have Advice For Someone With Late Forming Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a friend who just started having seizures last year unexpectedly. Neither me or his partner have any idea what is causing them. Being that they are after puberty the seizures don’t qualify as epilepsy and fall in the Seizure dysfunction category. I’ve tried to get him on this site but it’s been a no go. If anyone has any advice or ideas let me know.

Hi,I didn't start having seizures until I was 21.( 43 years ago) I've never found a trigger yet.He/she needs specialist advice .Try to convince your friend to come onto the site .We are really friendly, after all we know what your friend is going through There are many different types of seizure,it would be a good idea for him to keep a diary ,noting the events that occur before ,during ,after seizures so the professionals can see this info

Do you know if your friend was in any kind of accident and got his head shocked or hit? Was he in any type rough sports? Did he get severally ill or sick? These are all a few ways of getting Epilepsy. Finding an Epilepsy center can help him get a real diagnosis.

Look into the NIH/VA Epilepsy Center . I don’t live in Hawaii so I have no clue what island they are on. The little I was able to find out, is they do many tests ( MRI, EEG, plus other treatments ) for Epilepsy. They could help figure out, what his true diagnosis is. I’m guessing that they have Epileptologists there too. If possible, I would suggest finding Epileptologist, over a Neurologist .

If your friend were to come on this site, he could relate to anyone on this site. We all are supportive of each other and he could also learn a lot of new info on Epilepsy.

Hope this helped you some.

What are you trying to accomplish. I to started having seizures late in life. In my mid 30s. If this just started tell him to cover his financial ass. There’s insurance like Aflac, for the house payment, car loans etc. had I had someone give me some advise. I’d own my rentals and primary outright. They did pay off my truck. And like the Aflac thing, that’s just cash in your pocket. Read the fine print. Do it before he gets to deep in this medical shit. Some pre existings won’t be covered, so you gotta get on it.

A person who has a seizure doesn’t mean they have Epilepsy. If someone were to get withdrawals from Alcohol or drugs, a stroke, low blood sugar levels, and tumors. Those are just a few ways of having a seizure, and not having Epilepsy.

Epilepsy, can be triggered by many things. From stress anxiety, depression,to lacked of sleep, light and many other triggers. Plus we aren’t able to control our bodies with out meds.

The people without Epilepsy can have their episode and not have it again..
Hope this helped @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member
