Any Luck With Ketogenic Diet?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Ive been on Keto for about 3 months now and it seemed to work pretty good but recently I had a pretty violent seizure in my bathroom. Gave myself a black eye and had several cuts all over my body. I was just wondering if anyone has tried keto and it worked or didnt work for them?

i have been doing keto since i was 9-10... i am now 35. my tails before keto is... i had many, many seizures a day (about a seizure every 1-2 hours). meds ether didn't work or made me have worst reactions (including more seizures) or both. tried alternative meds and 1 nurse said keto. we (mom and i) researched it and tried it. it reduced my seizures to 1-5 seizures a day (mostly 2-3 a day). now... with cbd and keto... i will have 1 kinda spaceout (the beginning of an aura) every 1-3 months.
there is different type of keto... i had the strict, stay by the book (the ketogenic diet book volume 3 or 5) keto with the scale exact. then strict keto with the scale around exact. then strict/regular keto with around exact. and now i am regular keto without the scale. i am just saying... find your sweet spot. i had to switch from strict to regular keto but that is my thing.
my weakness is not food but snacks. i love popcorn. i will have buttered popcorn every once and a while.
what i am saying is there is a bunch of keto types. it will help but sometimes you will fall. just pick yourself up and keep moving.

I asked my doctor. She told me it wasn't really good. But it seems like it is. Don't know what to do about it yet

Me. Going on 2 years maybe. I don’t feel good when I cheat. I actually have simple partials soon after a high carb cheat.
(Chinese takeout is my weakeness).
I don’t do rice or noodles. I just can’t resist an egg roll or 2.
I see chocolate chip cookies up in the cupboard. Late at night I’ll sneak one (what can it hurt, right?). Come morning I am so sick.

I’m keto because my epilepsy diagnosis was sudden. My seizures were usually an hour, 1 1/2 after a meal, and we figured out that over a course of a day I was eating a lot of carbs in a day. With no idea what was causing the seizures, could it be food related?
I’d say as long as I stay in ketosis, I’m good. I don’t check anymore. I’m in a dietary routine. Much love-Jeff
