Is Anyone In The Military And Has Epilepsy?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

After I graduate university I am thinking about enlisting in the military but I need to know if anyone is already in the military or I would be wasting my time trying to enlist.

Not sure they would take you if you admit you have epilepsy. If you are on meds... how would you get them?
Pretty sure you’d wind up with a medical discharge.

This question has been asked before so I googled it. Pretty much what I read was chances of getting in were very very slim so it might be a waste of time but if you don't try you wont know. Even if you don't get in it will be great learning of apply and going through the processes of interviews etc. Why not try

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I would say its safety and have enough to deal with . My brother had psoriasis and he didn't say anything. When he started in the army it started because of the stress. they medically discharged him and reprimanded for not disclosing it. Not that he minded. My ex husband is military and I remember when he had to go for interviews and medicals to get in. He had to go 3times and they checked absolutely everything a pimple on your butt wouldn't get past them. I don't know but I really wouldn't be surprised if a person would have to give consent to look at medical notes.

In my early adulthood , had that same question. In the back of my head , It was telling myself that I wouldn’t qualify. Anyway there was a recruite up the road from where I lived at the time. So went and asked . Like the back of my head was telling me , I didn’t qualify.

I wasn't allowed to go into the military because I have epilepsy!
