SSDI
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone here ever filed for SSDI? I am struggling with my neurologist and was wondering if the Social Security asks for a letter of recommendation from a doctor or if a doctor personally writes one helps, or what exactly? My neurologist keeps telling me SS will request a letter if they need it.

The more Dr.s and specialist you can get a note from the better . If they ( SSA ) don’t except that, then you may want to get a Disability lawyer.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member same thing kinda happen to me. i got a temp ssi. i had surgery (2001)(to get the physical seizures removed) and well i was recovering (over year after the surgery) mom and dad divorce. right after that my temp ssi was denied. mom and i fought to the nail to get the ssi back. months later and i got a permanent ssi.
i am saying... you have to fight to get what you needed.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member the ssi guys want proof, first hand, of your disability. they wanna see it for themselves. problem is seizures themselves are random. with all the drs and med stuff on hand... you might be denied if you don't give a seizure. that is why you kinda need a lawyer or something. a middle man sorta thing. so that when you give um the copys (one for you and one for the lawyer) all the testing and dr visits and the meds and stuff like that... you would be almost certain to get the ssdi/ssi money.

I have SSDI myself , but to qualify for SSDI will depend on how much income you’ve earn Through all the jobs you have worked . They will calculate and figure out if you qualify or not. The SSA will start you on basic SSI ,before you go on SSDI.

Important thing with Social Security. is that you need a lot a documented proof about your Epilepsy. Any and all the Dr.’s and specialists , that know about your Epilepsy, are the ones you would need to inform the SSA . They also will need your your Date of birth, your Security Security , income , are you single or married, info on your parents and other info.
