Dreaming Of Seizures? Is It A Real Seizure
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed with myoclonic epilepsy 7 years ago which is minor tiny jolts. It feels like a light switch turns on and off in my head. Weird I know.

Anyways, I fell asleep and had a dream that I was having a seizure. I remember thinking in my dream I know I'm having one and it was like my mouth and jaw were seizing and I was shaking. I can't tell if I was actually having a real grand mal seizure or not. It almost felt like my whole body went numb or something, or like electrocuted.

I have grand mals and when I have them in my sleep, I wake up when it's over and feel out of it, like a dream like state. That is one of many things I experience after. Confusion, usually I've bitten my tongue or the side of my cheeks. I'm also very unstable when walking. And I usually need hrs and hrs of sleep to recover from a grand mal. My memory will also get messed with. So if you suspect a grand mal, go see your doc. The worst he can say is yeah you're having grand mals and then change your meds ect. But THAT is better then trying to live with undiagnosed/untreated grand mals.

I usually wake up when I have seizures while sleeping. Although I have had some where I mumbled to my partner and then rolled over to sleep.

Keep track of your sleep maybe. Hopefully it's just a dream. My myoclonic is nothing in comparison to my grand Mal's.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member 1st of all... good for you to researching. 2nd you probably had a seizure and/or having a seizure when you are dreaming it. i have it when i have a seizure in a dream and i wake up mid way through a seizure. good thing is i have partials and i can control my breathing to stop my seizures.

That would have been scary. I regularly have nocturnal grand mals I’ve woken up a couple of times during them but knew what was happening. It was a bit dreamlike but I knew what it was happening and I couldn’t stop it. I would mention it to your specialist.

I have been having a lot of seizures in my sleep lately. Sometimes I dream about having them and my boyfriend says no. Other times I wake up and he asks if I'm ok and says I had them.

There is a chance you had one. It sounds like you did. But dreams are weird, especially if it was exactly like the video. But like I said, I started having way more seizures in my sleep lately and they started as absence but lately have been grand mals. One where I was standing in the kitchen shaking with my arms in the air. My bf woke up bc the dog was barking. I have no memory, just sore.
