Glycogen Storage Disease And Nocturnal Seizures
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi there
Just wondering if anyone could help me out: just found out my daughter is highly suspected of having glycogen storage disease, an inherited condition. On top of that she has Type 1 diabetes. My question is, do epileptologists check for the existence of this disease when diagnosing people with epilepsy? Seizures are a symptom of this disease, so if I unknowingly have it could that explain away my seizures? I honestly don’t know what to think. The only thing that would be nice is to have… read more

Going to Your Dr. is the best and smartest thing You can do to help Your daughter. If Your neurologist/epilepologist can't help You then he/she can point You in the right direction to a Dr. that knows more about it.

It’s important the the Dr . Knows of other conditions or diseases. Mainly , because, they need to know what meds , are going to work safely. Especially , if your daughter is on other meds for he Diabetes and the GSD .

I can be possible because many things can cause it. I'd go to your Dr.'s & they will either check you out or send you to a specialist just for it & it will tell you more if it is causing it on you. I have family with Diabetes but my immune system is very high & strong & I'm a carrier. I'm also Hypoglusymic so my sugar can go low if I don't eat properly or just eat one meal which I usually do but I eat a lot of little things in between to make up of the other meals. But ask your Dr. & keep me posted please

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member you are saying you have a problem in your gut (weaken immune system). i have something simpler. it's called celiacs disease (weaken immune system). anyway your neuro (or epilepto) is train in the brain. you need a rheumato (autoimmune problems dr) or a gastro (gut dr). mined you neuro can know other stuff (like the gut) but there specialty is in the brain. i used to have many drs (gut, diet, and brain drs).
long story short... neuro and epilepto can check the other thing but they are not experts at it. you need a gut dr that works well with the brain dr.
