How Do You Know When You Have Had A Seizure?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Out of the blue yesterday when I thought everything was just fine, my tongue started hurting really bad like it had been bitten! I did more investigating and realized I'd had a seizure and without my tongue bitten I wouldn't have known!

Not everyone knows when they seizure. I’m one of them.

Most of the time, I have no clue when I seizure . My family and friends will alert me when I seizured.

Now there are times , when I notice clues , telling me that I seizured.
A couple of the easiest clues , is when I spill my food or drink while eating. Then there’s finding myself on the floor when I know I was up and walking.

The other clues have to do with my bodies reaction after I seizured. One is , when my hands shake , like someone who is having nicotine fit . I don’t Smoke. Then there my pulse . My pulse will speed up as if I just got done running a marathon.

Other times, I don’t have any of clue . I could be doing anything and not notice. That I seizured.

When I had the Partial Complex I would feel them in the night. Thst was very helpful with the testing for brain surgery.
If today I had a grand mal everyone in my building would hear it and unfortunately think I was being hurt. It effects the speech on my left side. Also I would have intense vomiting, migraine headache, and wouldn't be able to move as I have Lupus SLE ect. I also have an intense aura.
Thank goodness I have been seizure free for years.

In most cases, I need a witness to tell me that I have had a complex partial or full seizure because I have auras without seizures and no auras some of the time before a complex partial seizure. And my most recent form of full seizures consists of dropping to the ground being down for a few moments and then getting up and walking away (all while still in the seizure), thus if someone is not here to witness it, then I rarely know if I have had a complex partial or full seizure.

My seizures usually happen at night. So unless I wake up or bite my tongue or lip I don't always know when I have one either. ((Hugs)) hope u feel better soon.

I very rarely know that I've had a seizure unless there is someone there who saw it. I have bit the inside of my mouth or if I was writing something I'll have scribbled all over the page. Once I'd woke up in bed, it was 6pm, still in my jeans and t-shirt and no clue why it'd gotten in. At times recently I've wet the bed at times. I'd been doing it so often that I had to sleep with pads under me. Luckily I haven't done that in a good while now.
