I still to this day wonder why I had my first seizure and why I continue to have them. Kaiser permante doesn’t want to test me which really frustrates me. I was diagnosed when I was 14. I’m not 17 going on 18 in a couple months. It sucks. It really sucks. Just stay strong.

Epilepsy can happen anytime in someone’s life. There are many reasons for a person to be diagnosed.

Reasons like :
Head injuries
Car accidents
Sports
Bad fall on head
High fever
Brain tumor
Meningitis
Encephalitis
Strokes
Abnormal levels of substances, like sodium or blood sugar.

These are just some of the many reason being diagnosed later in life.

I was diagnosed January 4th of this year at 46. They can find no reason for me to have Epilepsy. When i have a grand mal seizure i am extremely tired and sore for days.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member everyone is different. some 'recovery time' (after the seizure) last a few seconds and others last hours. and the tiredness depends on the meds you take and/or the seizure time. sometimes its 24/7 and/or sometimes it just a few minutes. mine is the meds and its 24/7, 7 days a week. i learn how to deal with it.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I was diagnosed later in life as well. I spent 3 years consumes with how and why.
My doctor explained it this way: "it doesn't matter. Let's concentrate on fixing you, Getting you back to normal."
