Barometric Pressure's Effect On Seizures
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Earlier today, a rain storm came through. Maybe a minute before this, something happened, rather not discuss it. Thought about brain tumors and intracranial pressure. When the barometer drops, ICP is higher than the pressure outside of the head. Had brain surgery, and brain tumors have the same effect- the tumor presses on the brain. Any experiences with sudden changes in air pressure?

Thanks.

Me too. Exactly my experience, every word. Even what my neurologist said to me this morning, exactly word for word. He said he had deep experience with epilepsy for many years and never heard of air pressure changes being a trigger. I even live in NC!!!

Mary,

I have focal seizures and this has happened for a long time with the air pressure. I have TLE and had the surgery, which was not sucessfull. The aura changed over the years. The LOW has to come from the Gulf, go threw Atlanta, and then to NC., and SC. This happens a week or days before it actually arrives in those states that I've lived in. It's horrible! I can have as many as 3 to 8 or more. I had 4 yesterday. BUT it has to come threw Atlanta. The air pressure has to drop to 29. I monitor this when it happens. When I ask my Neurologist about this, "I've never heard of that." I said, "really, it's all over the internet!" Years ago, I could hide this from anyone who didn't know me very well. I was a commission outside sales rep., and could carry on a conversation with clients. I can't do that now. If you or anyone has any experiences like this, would you share? Thanks.
