I have noticed some people have some sort of focal epilepsy where they know where their seizures are coming from (a part of the brain). In the case of focal seizures you can have surgery, but usually in generalized epilepsy I haven't heard of a surgery that works yet.
this is what my drs said.
partial (focal onset) seizures are on one side. generalize seizures are on both sides. i have complex partials into generalize grand mals (focal onset impaired awareness into generalize tonic clonics). with partials drs will have surgery because they know the other side is fine. with generalize drs are unsure of surgery because its both sides.
i think the surgery with a generalize the drs cant risked it. with a partial, you will disconnect haft the brain and took out most of the brain.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member dont know about the impaired awareness part. I have had so much memory loss I cant remeber a lot of the details. I should pay more attention but nothing changes so Ive been just checked out more and angry. Im trying ti get my attitude in check. I have a team of drs concerned since I had status again. Last I knew I didnt qualify for surgeryt I knew I didnt qualify for surgery so I think I just have to deal with it. New dr next week so we will see. Are you controlled with meds
All my MRI & CT scans etc from my early yrs of 2yrs old until 2yrs ago still show there is nothing wrong with my brain at all... go figure...
Ive noticed my seizures are mostly brought on by over exhausting my body like too much work and not having proper rest days off in between. My work place is great with working with me on all this. Also if l dont eat in regular intervals (blood sugar levels) go down this also triggers them. We need to listen to our bodies, and take care of them best we can
My daughter and I have generalized epilepsy. You might have take more than one med. right now both of ours are control with meds.
