I was diagnosed with temporal, parietal and frontal lobe epilepsy in 2012. I was admitted into a psychiatric hospital for a mood disorder and we couldn't find the root cause so my psychiatrist had me do an 18-hour EEG and that was the result. I was not even aware that you could have multiple almost undetectable seizures all day, every day. I zone out a lot and my vision goes blurry for like 15-30 seconds while that happens. Does anyone else have this and are you aware when it's happening? I am… read more
I have Petit mal seizures and they suck! They are mostly triggered by flashing lights like strobes or police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, fire works, glow bowling lights things like that. I'm always aware when I have one but I'm never able to respond. I just stare at one point for a time. Sometimes I come out of it myself other times my husband or someone has to get me out of it. Afterwards my head always feels light, my mouth dry and my eyes are dry too. I feel embarrassed too because I see the faces and the worry it caused.
I have left temporal lobe epilepsy that was diagnosed five years ago. I have petit mal seizures which are called partial seizures now. I have an aura. Which is a sign they're coming. My aura is immediate horrible fear with increased heart rate and sweating. I have squeezing Sensation that starts in abdomen and slowly goes up to chest and head. When it is at the chest I have a hard time breathing. I smell smells that aren't there. I swallow frequently and I am unable to speak even though I can hear normally what is going on around me and I stare. They last for 1 to 1 and 1/2 minutes. Incidentally I just had laser interstitial thermal therapy 10 days ago. It is a brain surgery for epilepsy. My seizures were uncontrollable. Please be aware if that any seizures over time cause permanent damage to brain function. That is why seizure control is imperative. For my doctors 4 a month was starting to get too much. Although I have had epilepsy for a short period time I have moderate memory impairment from it . Uncontrolled seizures over years always cause permanent brain damage. Hence the need for surgery. Please collect all the information you can and go to an epileptologist neurologist associated with a level 4 Epilepsy Center. Only 1% of the population have epilepsy. It is uncommon and neurologists who are General neurologist may not have the huge volume of patients in their practice to perfect their patient epilepsy treatments. My Hospital is associated with Harvard Medical School. My neurologist are professors at Harvard Medical School. And I have learned so much from them. I wish you the best of everything
Yes I do. I also have tle and I have those type of problems
Tell me about it! And it's exhausting having seizures all the time. My family think I'm overreacting. I think mine are triggered by sounds mostly especially if there are repetitive sounds or beats but I've also noticed with flashing things that it happens. I'm so glad I can finally relate to someone! My eyes almost get a burning sensation when I have a fit and then I have dry eyes afterwards as well. Having experienced both petit mal seizures and grand mal seizures I'm not entirely sure which one is worse to be honest 😕 My petit mal seizures happen so often. Some days are a lot worse than others but it's draining. And the bipolar my seizures cause isn't great either.
