Ketogenic Diet, Does Anyone Follow This Treatment For Seizures, Or Even Just Try Low Glycemic Diets For Seizure Control?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Roanoke, VA

I'm looking for advice on the ketogenic diet or low glycemic diets. Has any tried these and had it help seizure control? Too much sugar is a trigger for me, so I was wondering if it might help to be more strict with diet.
Thanks

2 years Keto/VNS My life is definetly better because of it.
I noticed that when I did seize, I had eaten a carb heavy meal an hour before. I also noticed some starches were to blame maybe. Pasta and rice.
I told my doc he recommend Keto and set me up with a dietician.
Seizure activity is less.
Auras (simple partial/focal) down to 1x a month.
Absence seizures eliminated.
Haven't had a grand mal in 11 months (attributed to VNS).
Once in ketosis you will know within 3 months if keto works for you. If it does, stick with it.
It's only hard if you make it hard.
My wife went keto too because it made sense for adults to eat the same, and support each other. She is down from size 15 to 8 and holding. I am at senior year of high school waist size and loving it! ( I too was overweight).
Prior to pills it was what doctors prescribed for epilepsy. We gotta quit eating sweets and breads. (Make your own sugar free) Eat the butter.

I just started the Modified Atkins Diet one week ago. I'm in the early stages of it. I'm hopping it helps.

i had a strict keto diet for about 10+ years. i still get the loosely keto diet. i used to have seizures every hour before the diet. during is a couple of seizures a day and even less when i had the surgery. now i am seizure free (from a little help from the cbd oil). i also reduced my meds. its from a lot of high meds 3x a day to 2 small med 2x a day and a cbd 1 a day.
