Does anyone know how long before they are controlled? She has 1-2 a day.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member i took tegretol and it did nothing to me. i still had seizures. but here's the side effects for Tegretol (Carbamazepine)... nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth,
swollen tongue, loss of balance or coordination, or
unsteadiness.
Serious Side Effects of Tegretol:
Irregular heartbeat. Shortness of breath, Fainting or feeling lightheaded, Liver problems.
That hard to answer .
1 Everyone’s Epilepsy is different .we all react differently.
2 The meds out there also differs from one person to another . Some may be able to get their seizures under controlled right away, some it may take longer, and people like myself who has had Epilepsy all their life and still can’t find the right combo of meds to control the seizures 100%.
3 Once she’s gotten to the point where she’s tried the majority of the AED drugs, then you’ll know that she’ll only have a 5% chance of find that medication or combination of meds to get the seizures under controlled.
Everyone’ body chemistry is different.
Hope this helps

No, I’m not seizure free, still have them and on three different meds. Now that my hormones are whacked because of perimenopause, they’re getting worse and unpredictable again. Maybe after menopause they’ll settle down?
Just because she is on medication does not mean , that will keep her seizure free, I have had seizuresfor 65 years, and am on 100mg. Dilantin, like the person above said, Whatever their trigger is, if they are around that trigger seizure will happen. Mine is music, lights, certain smells. Fireworks on 4th. of July. as was said above everyone is different.
I myself have never heard of anyone 's seizures being control, just because they were put on medications. I'm 82 and so have had them all my life , don't know if they are what you would call controlled , ever.
