My surgeon wants to give me a VNS. Has anyone had bad side effects or a bad recovery? If so what should I possibly look for? What has changed and has it helped your seizures
Hi Angela. I've had a VNS for 4 years. Surgery and recovery went well. I had some side effects for the first few months. After my body got use to the device, the side effects went away. The VNS helped reduce the amount of seizures I have. As soon as I feel a seizure starting, I swipe the magnet over the device and the seizure stops. The side effects that you'll feel will be a horse voice, itchy throat and a cough due to the location of the nerve. I only feel those side effects now when I swipe the magnet on the VNS. Getting the VNS was the best decision I have made. Good luck!
Mine has helped me out seizure wise great. One thing that has me wondering is my voice. I'm hoarse more than I expected. I've rather have the Voice problems than the seizures. Living in Tennessee now and back to Fl for a month I feel safer out in public. We traveled all the way to the pacific this fall and no seizure problems. For me I'd rather explain the Voice problems than a seizure. Good luck on your adventure with the VNS.
Less seizures with the Vns. I go months now.
Ask your doctor about the RNS device. Google it.
They say it works better than the VNS
My nuro has sent me to talk to someone about this in fact I go in a few hours. I am wondering about my first appointment if i am supposed to be sleep deprived or not I lost my referral paperwork
