Does Anyone Have An Interaction With Whiskey And Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

So I can drink vodka, beer, wine, etc. But the three times I have had whiskey in my life, I have seized about 14 hours after consuming. Does anyone else have an interaction with whiskey and their seizures?

Thank you all for your responses. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I feel like you could have been a little bit more kind and understanding with my question. ALL neurologists have given the A-OKAY to drink but in moderation. For me, it is just with whiskey that makes me seize. No other type of liquor, beer or wine do. Sorry if that isn't the case for you! If you aren't aware, everyones epilepsy is different and is triggered by different things! Mine is triggered ONLY by stress, lack of sleep, PTSD, and whiskey. This website is meant for us to be supportive and help each other out when we have questions. Please be more kind! :)

Sincerely,

An educated 22 year old epileptic, who has done more research than you.

P.S. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I would like to try your wine!

Whiskey being very high proof. I reckon it sounds like "alcohol withdrawal" causing those seizures.

Wine in moderation is all I can drink. I used to drink hard liqueur, never did me justice. Seizures and very hard hangovers is all I dealt with.
I also just found out that when you smoke while drinking the nicotine enhances the effects of alcohol. Never knew that.

Whisky is at the top of my liquor list. A couple years ago I realized I was gluten intolerant (not Celiac's disease). Turns out whisky had it. Since I've cut gluten out of my diet, it's been over 2 years since my last tonic-clonic seizure (the longest I've ever gone in 22 years). Maybe it's gluten for you too? But alcohol in general isn't a great idea. Definitely try to limit your intake.
