Seizures And Your Pets
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have the greatest dog in the world. He is my whole life and has kept me going these last four years. My dogs name is apollo, he has been with me since the day he was born. He is a sweet little ratterrier dauschund. He is my little shadow. He follows me everywhere he can. We are inseparable. Cuddling with him isn't unusual for us. He will lay in my arms, his head laying on my arm. He definitely knows when I'm going to have seizures or have had one when I didn't know. Sleep seizures are a common… read more

We have a cat and she knows when I am going to have a seizure and tries to get someone else's attention.

H Ashleyskellington sounds as if your dog is a seizure alert dog! I have a professionally trained seizure service dog. These dogs are trained to do many amazing things. But the one thing they are not trained to do is warning of seizures. The way they get that title is they are given to a volunteer that has an extreme number of seizures. After a certain amount of time, he tells the service dog training organization if it is a possibility, I know if I didn't mine, I'd be living in a padded white room. Sounds as if the only difference between Apollo and my service dog is that service dog can go anywhere you do. A way I know away you may sneak him in there to be one is thru Amazon. If he is obedient as you say he is go to amazon type in service dog vest it will give you a number of different choices that say service dog. The one I have for a truly licensed service dog is all black. Also Ilike to disagree with you with ability to work I know having epilepsy can be extremely depressive and make you feel as if you can do nothing. I went thru a period being under suicide watch then after a year of that 4yrs. medicated and seeing psychiatrist. What pulled me out of it is going to a school for disabled showing me how easy it is to live with my disability cared to some others.there If you have belief in your ability to do something more likely, you'll succeed !!! Yes, you may not be able to sometimes but that is not surprising at all. I say that because no one is perfect. I have recent proof of that. That being I had a type of seizure on the 29th of December taken to ER had bunch of blood test done and spent night in hospital after being let go I got a call from the hosp. to come back because of results of one of my tests came back about me possibly having culinary cancer. Went in had test done again and oops the professional scientist made a mistake. I believe even when you do have a disability you can still have a good job. Such as a professional baseball player who was a pitcher only had 1 hand. That pitchers name was Jim Abbott he played for multiple teams 1989-1999 without a right hand. I believe that shows having a disability can be successful or lifesaving as it was for me about 25 yrs after my 1st lobectomy I was hit by car put in hosp. in a coma with bleeding of the brain. when I came out of the coma doctor told me I was lucky I had lobectomy done If I didn't I'd be comatose for life from compression of blood on brain. since I had that 13% removed the blood had some where to drain and prevent the pressure from happening! I WISH YOU THE BEST AND DON''T FORGET TO HELP YOU AND APPOLLO OUT GETTING A NICE VEST!🤴
