A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi there. I was on Oxtellar, but my doctor switched me to Lamictal. She did so after I had been sent a 3 month subscription from my mail order pharmacy. I can’t send it back and my neurologist’s office won’t take it. Oxtellar is an expensive drug. I feel horrible that I have this sitting around when people who need it and can’t afford it are struggling. Any thoughts on what I can do with this as opposed to having it discarded by a pharmacy? Any ideas are welcome.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I would suggest that you can contact your physician to see be if you can donate or see if they're have some one that cannot afford it and give it to someone that cannot afford it

Again. Not the question I asked. I have 3 months of medication I do not need. I was asking for suggestions on what I could do with that medication other than throw it away.

@Oxtellar XR May I ask a ? Do you have Medicaid? Now the reason I asked is because The type of Epilepsy I have is that I can't take Generic Medicine I have to take Brand Name I have to get a 3 month supply as well. Medicaid does cover. Brand Name!!! What you would have to do is Let Your Neurologist Kno that you cannot afford your Medicine!!!!!! What. he/she would have to write Brand Name Medically Necessary and it will pay for it. But you will have a copay and it would be $8.30 Explain to your Neurologist that it's to expensive.

I was asking if anyone had ideas as to what to do with medication I am no longer taking. Thanks for your answer but it’s not relevant to the question I asked.

I was diagnosed at the age of two Now as for myself Due to the fact that I have been Been on just about every medicine there is for Epilepsy I was diagnosed at the age of two. And when I was younger my Neurologist had me using the pill case now the way that works is according the way he/she has the way the dosage is written. Pay attention the way it is written Count the amount of your medicine and put your medicine according to how much your talking for the month. But you have to make sure that you take it as it is. Now if you missed your dosage Plz do not double up on your medicine it can harm you .I suggest that you make a journal or an calendar write the time and make a notepad and put it in the kitchen on the wall or refrigerator.
