A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've had generalized epilepsy for 15+ years, and haven't been able to drive since 2011. I also haven't held a job since 2013; as a grill cook and then manager for short time, which is no longer feasible. I've studied other subjects in hopes of finding an internship or part-time job, preferably one where I could work remotely (such as in programming or web development). At this point though, I feel extremely lost and very far behind everyone else in any potential job market. I haven't had a… read more

I did a job change for a few years. Like you I was I was a manager in a kitchen. I became a CNA. It’s a short course you can take, and it can have a flexable schedule. Part time, perdiem, fulltime. You also might be able to get help paying for it by the state.

I am a cna but dont have a job in a facility yet. Before now i was a cargiver for an at home company so id go to differnt places. I dont have a car so i take the bus from place to place. You have to find a company that does not require a car or liscence. I decided to tell them aboutt my epilepsy once i was offered the job and told them of my meds. I did strertch the time frame of my last seizure. Once i got to know my clients i would tell them. Explain what happens and just to call 911. I dont usually need to. But for their comfort and to not have any responsibility i say to call 911. I also tell them i am usually countious by the time the ambulance gets there which is true.

Ask voc rehab if you can get dissability and learn a trade or colledge at the same time

Hope this helps.
Oh onxe i had a seizure in front of a client but he did not feel the need to call my company.

Definitely try vocational rehab. Vocational Rehab will tell you this too, try temp agencies.

I was a financial manager four years ago and I was diagnosed and due to falls my memory has been affected so I haven’t been able to work. I would love to but I would get fired for being out too much. My meds control most of the seizures but I still have them monthly at least but the meds make me so tired the dr wasn’t sure upping the dose would be better or worse for me so we are waiting some more before we decide

I Take Lamotrigne But It Has To Be The Same Manufacturer. Others Ones Don't Stop Seizures. One Time I Had To Travel Three Hours To Get It.
