Feeling Toxic
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My dr just changed my meds again. He lowered my oxcarbazine from 1800 mg to 1200, still at 2000 keppra, and increased my vimpat to 200 mg from 100. My serum levels on my blood work has been at 34.9. Toxic level is 35. I feel so toxic. I wake up with my hands twitching, and im sick to my stomach. Is anyone else on this high of dose or feel this way?

My husband is on keppra 750 mg 3 times daily he also on carbamazepine 3 xdaily 400mg. He started getting psychotic thought so they put him on lamotragine and his phychosis got worse he is no of lamotoragine but still on keppra and also had to go on a tablet for the white voices we think the keppra has got something to do with it but they haven’t suggested reducing it. He never had white voices till he went on keppra.

I know your oxcarbazepine levels are lower and they do have to reduce your levels gradually but I am surprised he is not lowering your keppra at all. Also with most doctors I have seen in the past they have always advised me to drop them further by certain amounts if this is still a problem. Good luck with everything though.

Oh no!! That’s very dangerous. IMO, after seeing your levels the docs should have done something immediately. Please talk with your doctors right away.

When I told my docs that I felt toxic on the med doses I was taking they immediately started working with me to lower them. I was lucky that my seizures remained controlled. And I definitely felt better on the lower doses.

I’ll be praying for you. Stay strong.
