Is There Anything Specific That Is Good To Know For VNS Post Op Care?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm curious if anyone experienced any kind of soreness in their throats, or other irritating, detrimental side effects after surgery but before they had the device turned on. Any info is appreciated!

It an in and out procedure. After the op, I didn’t have much trouble. One of things I noticed right away was, at times I would cough and my voice would crack when the electric surge was triggered to the brain. It didn’t take long for my body to adapt to it . When I did get use to it , I would forget that I even had it, unless I started to play with the battery box near my chest. Even when my Dr. Would level up the surge , I didn’t notice anything different.

I've had mine for 5 weeks now. It was installed turned on. No problem with the unit post op. My chin. I think they hit a nerve my chin was sore and numb. Now it's just numb.

Just don't lift a lot. I had some small blood vessels leak so I ended up with a big pocket of blood and had to go in and get it drained. They kept me for 2 days to be sure it stopped bleeding. So take it easy. I overdid it.
