My daughter was diagnosed with idiopathic-generalised epilepsy at 4 months old she's now 4. She's been seizure free for 2.5 years now. The Drs are on about reducing her medication now. Which I am worried about. She's started the past few months when she's talking she's started to stutter. I was wondering if anyone knows if that's part of epilepsy? Or just a stage she goes through. She's not done it for a couple of weeks now
It could be the meds. or a little seizure because mine are now more my speech & that's what happens
It could be an adverse side effect of meds. Another thing that could play a baring is age and atmosphere. They have that lack of confidence when young. Nervousness adds to cause of studdering. I remember how much my soon to be ex used to me me nervous. Used to effect focus, speach, and seizures in gereral. All fine now though.
My younger daughter who will be 15 soon is now better with speach. Her problem is different, HFA. Very high functioning. Anyway, putting her on the ketogentic diet, having her soak in Epsom salt with lavender oil 20 mins per night relaxed nerves. Speach fluency improved tons.
Stuttering can be caused by our Epilepsy or it could be a side effect from the medication.
I’m not a speach therapist or a doctor. I’ve only been very active with lots of children over the years. Always a great idea to get a doctors opinion.
I do advice her to talk slowly and think about what shes gonna say before she says it. Liek I said she doesn't do it very often. If this was related to her speech and needed a speech therapist she would stutter all the while??
