Nocturnal Seizures And Stress
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,
I have nocturnal seizures but it always seems to happen when I am relaxed after being under a lot of stress. I wonder why that would happen? I thought it would be the other way: stress=seizure. Can anyone help me figure this out?
Thanks🙂

Unfortunately, there is no answer. When I went to my neurologist, she increased my medication in the evening. That helped. I then went to have a nocturnal exam where I was hoping the activity could be located. This was done twice. Hope this helps.

I've had seizures while relaxed sometimes the way I think or what i think about can bring it on, that's why I put it behind me afterwards + make myself think forwards to a better future.

BryanMartin> glad to see someone else call them spacey spells- that is what I call mine
I get stressed out and am fine until the stress is over but I don't have nocturnal seizers, it is kinda like a coil that has been all wound up and now has started to become unsprung
I have several types of seizures, my are effected by sound, lights, food or lack of eating, rest or too much of it- I do better on 5-6 hrs sleep instead of 8 hrs with a nap
I am on 3 diff meds for seizures but take the larger doses at bed time

When I was younger and a child and still at school I used to get seizures when I went away or got school holidays and relaxed. It still is a mystery because now I get it due to stress, but I don't have a definite answer for you

there is a lot of things to trigger a seizure. tiredness, stress, bright or flashing lights, or allergies. mine is a combo of food, tiredness, and/or flashing lights. sometimes when i am relax, my breathing would cause my space-outs auras.
