Has Anyone Heard Of Pseudo Seizures?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Detroit, MI

I was told I have Grand Mal and other Seizure Disorders one of them called Pseudoseizures . Anyone else ever hear of this? I'm told it's hard to diagnose and often gone undiagnosed or is missed. My family and I was just grasping the Grand Mal Seizures now there's more to try and sort thru?

I have both of them also a pseudo seizure is a seizure it's a non epileptic seizure usually caused from stress and things like it anxiety etc. The seizures are like grand mals but like you said are hard to detect. They can't be treated with medicine. I use coping mechanisms to help me deal with my stress and anxiety like meditation, swimming. You have. To find what works for you.

I have always been taught that pseudo seizures need psychiatric interventions. The last time I was in hospital for reasons I really don't know why!! I asked my neurologist so you are saying I have pseudos , he got really angry 😡 and said did I ever say that! I have never ever heard him raise his voice and never get angry at all.

That’s why it has been renamed over here in Ireland anyway as ‘Non Epileptic Seizures’ NES. To dispel the horrible and incorrect preconceptions that these seizures are controlled by the person.

This horrible epilepsy "thing" is not nice and yes I think the most confusing thing I have ever had to deal with. There's answers and yet there isn't. All I can say is especially what I have experienced with this disorder is a lot of the medical literature gives a baseline and that's about it! The truth comes out from people who actually have epilepsy I'm just going to forget google ( well I will try) and get the information from this site. If people still want to explain what their experiences with yes😱Pseudos, sorry 😐 Please do. I have decided to come to my own concluson about all this 🤔🤔whether I'm right or wrong. The word pseudo is quite ludicrous and should never be put into the equation! A seizure is a seizure and a real one at that

Mark yeah absolutely just know what I'm going to go thru or probably will be going thru really doesn't make me feel better about the Aura anymore. Although I guess it's a good thing in a way because my family makes sure they get me to the hospital fast. It's just odd having Seizures with and without Aura's because I don't know when the other ones come and when I have them or if my kids will have to see them again it sucks but this is my life now and I've accepted it so staying positive!!!
