Is there a criteria to have this? How does it work? Is there certain reasons that would be ruled out? I have had a brain tumour and after surgery this is when I was diagnosed after a few months. Even though in hind sight I had a few before diagnosis
For the USA, a good source of information on VNS, is the Epilepsy Foundation, online. I found Vagal Nerve Stimulation is available online www.epilepsy.org.au/ , or Epilepsy Action Australia, in the glossary. It gives a slightly different type of information, but it may be courtesy of an alternate form of English. However, in research of it, I noticed VNS is also being used in fibromyalgia in Australia. Now, it's time to see about its use in the USA for mothers to five of our grandchildren.
May God be with you in finding a little deeper information. 😊
It's unfortunate, you have a long period in wait, Maia. I pray the VNS will help you, when implanted.
Its usually used to treat Generalized Epilepsy syndromes- Childhood Abscence, Juvenile Abscence, Juvenile Myoclonic, Tonic -Clonic and Refractory generalized seizures.. Its also used to treat migraines in Canada. I'm currently on a waiting list for three hospitals in different provinces( Toronto is a 4 year wait, Vancouver is 6 years, and Calgary is a 3-7 year wait )..
Wow technology! I asked about criteria and reasons why some people might be ruled outs. Having some missing temporal lobe and scaring would this be a problem? I'm in Australia and having heard about it it must be around here
Vagus nerve stimulation - designed to prevent seizures by sending regular, mild pulses of electrical energy to the brain via the vagus nerve. The VNS device is sometimes referred to as a 'pacemaker for the brain'
