I have my 3rd VNS in me today. The hoarseness, coughing, and tickles are normal side effects, I was having over 100 seizures a month. I had it put in me after watching a video that Cyberonic's gave to my neurologist's office. I went in to it with a positive out look. There was a 66.6% chance that something good would become of it and a 33.3% chance that it wouldn't work at all. After I had it placed in me, my neurologist slowly turned the implant up. I was set at 2.50. I went from having over 100 seizure a month to @ 10-15 a month. I still take my medications and will have to take it the rest of ,my life and have the VNS battery changed as needed. It has been a wonderful blessing in my life. I can finally stop a seizure from occurring. I have spoken at the neurology convention in Las Vegas, NV, begging them how much the VNS changed my life and begged them to learn more about the implant and to learn how to use it. I hope this helps you.

I know when I has my VNS if the doctor had the settings of the output current too high, the output frequency of the VNS signal set to fast, or the on time set to long that was 3 settings that really caused problems with me. If your side effects continue, ask your Dr. To check out the settings and tell him what you are feeling. My VNS was in from 12/29/99 until this past October 4th, 2017. I had it removed before the the RNS implant. Recently January 25,2017 I had to have the RNS removed due to Bacteria found in my Central Nervous System. This was found out from regular headaches all of a sudden and a CAT SCAN. I'm feeling a lot better now.

T.y. Vanna implant works great. Swipe over her chest and seizure stop immediately. Had a battery changed on Monday but I was just worried how long the coughing would las . She's Non-verbal so I really dont know hows she really feeling. I really dont see any discomfort now. Thank God

It may be good for Vanna, I do not want to be negative on VNS, just wanted you to know my situation. If helps with control than use it.
